Keith (whose ringtone is The Lion Sleeps Tonight, of course) and Ranch Manager Cristina Cuellar clearly have very special relationships with all the curious and spirited animals in their care. The animals' surroundings may seem a little Spartan, but they're all healthy and well cared for. Keith has also taken in a young giraffe named Ozzie, some tortoises, ostriches, emus and other exotic birds that needed re-homing and may otherwise have been abandoned. It's currently home to 36 lions, one of which is a descendant of the original MGM lion from the movie logo. As the 'Lion King' of Las Vegas, he's been taking care of exotic animals there for over 40 years.Īt the time, the ranch was closed to the public, but since they left the MGM Grand in 2012, the sanctuary is now a non-profit and open for visitors. During their tenure at the hotel, the cats commuted back and forth and only missed one shift in 13 years, a detail shared from Lion Habitat Ranch owner, Keith Evans. Their home, however, wasn't a plush suite atop the hotel as one might assume, but a ranch ten minutes away in Henderson. Their influence made them one of the most famous and longest running attractions on The Strip. The ubiquitous roar of the MGM Lions is synonymous with movie magic.
